Opened on Sept. 28, 2025, the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is the world’s highest bridge deck, soaring roughly 2,050 ft. above the Beipan River and spanning some 4,658 ft. The record is impressive—but the impact is more profound. A crossing that once required hours of winding mountain travel through Guizhou, one of China’s most remote provinces, is now reduced to an easy two-minute trip. The bridge anchors a broader wave of high-altitude infrastructure and tourism designed to better integrate the Bouyei-Miao Autonomous Prefecture, where ethnic Miao and Bouyei communities have lived for centuries, with the rest of the country. In recent years, China has pursued engineering spectacles not just as symbols of technological prowess, but as practical tools to modernize remote regions and fuel domestic tourism. Here, visitors can walk a glass sky bridge suspended over the canyon, ride a 679-ft. glass elevator to a panoramic sky café, explore nearby traditional villages, or try emerging attractions like bungee jumping and a giant swing.
