![지난 6월 21일, 이태원 보광동에 있는 자신의 집에서 박에디씨를 만나 이야기를 나눴다. 박씨는 코로나19 판데믹이 시작하기 바로 직전인, 그리고 트랜스젠더 혐오가 한국 사회에 퍼지기 시작한 시점인 2020년 1월부터 이 아파트에 살았다. 변희수 하사의 전역처분과 숙명여자대학교의 트랜스젠더 합격생이 트랜스젠더 혐오적인 분위기에 입학을 포기했던 사건들을 두고 박씨는 “코로나도 코로나지만 이 한국사회에 트랜스젠더 혐오가 장난 아니었어요” 라고 회상한다. “성별 정정이 됐는데도 불구하고 학교를 갈 수 없는? 한 트랜스젠더 여군은 가겠다고 하니 오지말라 그러고… 어쩌라는건지 모르겠어요.” 라며 박씨는 이렇게 기본적인 권리조차 지켜주지 않는 환경이 자신을 좌절하게끔 만들었다 하였다. “저는 2개월간 다섯 번의 장례식을 간거에요. 왜 상처 나면 약바르고 딱지가 지잖아요. 딱지가 지고나서 벗겨지면 흉터가 남는데. 지금 딱 딱지 과정인 것 같아요. 그리고 내 집이 저에게는 [상처를 돌볼 수 있는] 안전한 곳이죠.”](https://static.time.com/v3/assets/bltea6093859af6183b/blt79bfcfdbe37e0df6/698a1ccab3fce3c48b0c84b5/LGBTQ-south-korea-antidiscrimination-1-korean.jpg?branch=production&width=3840&quality=75&auto=webp&crop=1%3A1)
