A video montage at Sunday night’s Primetime Emmy Awards bade farewell to several TV shows that ended in the past year—by editing together a montage of spoilers from each show. In what felt like a massive practical joke, viewers who hadn’t finished—or even started—binge-watching Nurse Jackie, Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire, Two and a Half Men and a handful of other series were unexpectedly treated to the shows’ final moments.
Host Andy Samberg acknowledged the impending rage of the Twittersphere after the montage, shrugging, “Welcome back to the spoiler awards. I guess everyone on every show died.” While a handful responded to the montage on Twitter by expressing their nostalgia for series past, many tweeted their ire—while others, in turn, mocked the ire of the irate. The world, clearly, is no longer safe for the unspoiled.
